I'm so grateful for a wonderful first year of marriage! God has been so good. I can barely believe that it has been over a year since we were standing on the beach saying our vows. In a way, it feels like it went by so fast, and, at the same time, it is weird to think we were ever not married. The Bible is definitely right when it talks about a man and woman becoming one in marriage. Even after this year, neither of us seem to think we could function very well without each other.
Our first-year celebration was not very typical. We enjoyed a wonderful weekend trip to the island of Roatan WITH my family and 17 more people!! We enjoyed ourselves very much!! Kara made the night very special with a fun guessing game for Marvin and me! She would ask us questions and we would vote if the answer was him or me(but him and I couldn't see what the other one was voting)!! A couple of the questions were: Who likes to socialize more? (I covered my face and voted Him!!) Who likes to eat out more? Who snores the most? Who talks the most? We did pretty good! My mom and Kara also had a nice cake made for us with the colors from our wedding! We used the cake topper from our wedding to decorate the top--this inspiration came from my dear Aunt Toto who would make a cake every year for her anniversary and decorate it with her wedding cake-topper!
This has been a year of joy, trial, growth, and adventure. We have learned so much, yet have SO much more to learn. Some of the things the Lord has been teaching us in our relationship this year are humility, selflessness, communication, and love. Some of the many things we have been learning as a family are more dependence on God and to trust more in Him, integrity, boldness in our faith, generosity to the Lord and others and surrendering everything we have to the Lord. We haven't mastered any, but have been made more and more aware of how necessary they are and how much we need Jesus as the rock of our relationship.
Marvin is a wonderful husband. I am so thankful to be married to my best friend and the love of my life. There is no one I would rather spend the rest of my life with. I love his heart, his sense of humor, his personality and his love for the Lord. I pray our love will continue to grow and we will continue to learn how to serve and pour our lives into one another and most of all, serve and pour our lives into glorifying Jesus. I pray He will continue to knit our hearts and our visions together and continue to make us one, not only with each other, but one with Him.
That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:21
